Meet Jasper Jackson

Jasper Jackson is the oldest of five children. He was born on the Southside of Chicago, where his parents still reside. He has been a hard worker since his early days, shoveling snow, cutting grass, and helping those in the neighborhood who needed help. Jasper moved to Los Angeles in 1988 and later settled in Compton.

Jasper graduated from high school in Chicago, went on to earn an AA in Paralegal, and later earned his BA in Sociology from Northern Illinois University. Jasper began his paralegal career in Chicago at a prominent law firm but was asked to relocate to Los Angeles to help launch the west coast operation of the prestigious law firm. He launched his own paralegal firm in 1999 and has run a successful small business for the last 24 years, employing many people from the Compton community.

Jasper, a lifelong Democrat, has served the Compton community for many years. First as a dedicated Block Club President for the Tajauta Block Club. He was later appointed by the Compton City Council as a Citywide Block Club Commissioner where he was elected President by his peers. Additionally, he has served as a youth sports coach in basketball and football. Jasper is an elected delegate of the California Democratic Party State Central Committee.

Jasper Jackson is a strong leader, a skilled problem-solver, and an inclusive consensus-builder who has worked for many years to build relationships between black and brown communities.

Jasper’s Vision Statement

Our city, and more specifically, District 1, grapples with pressing issues such as affordable housing and homelessness, public safety, fixing our city streets, stability in city management, economic development, overall financial stability, and basic quality of life issues. I am prepared on day-one to fight for the services our district and city deserve. I understand the importance of fostering relationships and forging public-private partnerships with labor, businesses, and faith-based communities to deliver tangible results for our community.

I am committed to addressing the pressing issues listed above that affect our community. One of my top priorities is finding compassionate and effective solutions for our unhoused neighbors. No one should endure the hardships of homelessness, and I will work tirelessly to provide stable housing and supportive services to those in need.

Ending Homelessness

I will work tirelessly to provide stable housing and fight to expand funding

streams for shelters, increase mental health and addiction services, and work collaboratively to create more affordable housing options.

Making Housing Affordable

We need to build more housing to help lower the outrageously high prices that are forcing working families out of our communities. I will fight to ensure renters can afford to live where they work and set them on a path to homeownership.

Protecting Public Safety

I am committed to keeping our communities safe. I will fight to secure the resources needed for faster emergency response times and establish better mechanisms for law enforcement to focus on public safety rather than being on the frontlines for mental health services that should be handled by social workers.

Fixing City Streets

Although we have seen progress in fixing our city streets, the process in taking too long and needs to be expedited. We have experienced far too many claims for repairs needed because of damaged cars caused by our crumbling streets.

Instability in City Management

As was noted in our state audit, our city faces instability in city management because of the extremely high turnover in the position of City Manager. The high turnover is primarily based on politics and political infighting between the Mayor and City Council Members. We have to stop with individual political agendas and focus on what’s best for the city.

Economic Development

I will work collaboratively to attract economic development projects that our

community needs that also create additional tax revenue to support our general fund.

Seniors

Our seniors are the bedrock of our community, and they deserve our support and respect. I am committed to securing enhanced funding for senior programs and services, ensuring that our elderly residents can enjoy their retirement years with dignity and access to essential resources.

I am eager to engage with you over the coming weeks to get your ideas of what a revitalized Compton should look like. Together, we can work towards positive change in our community. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to share your thoughts. Feel free to call me if you have any questions about my campaign at 213-273-3391.
